Saving the House

Saving the house

Philadelphia Daily News

Thanks to a recent court order by Common Pleas President Judge C. Darnell Jones II, lenders must sit down with delinquent borrowers in front of a judge and make a good- faith effort to rework the mortgage loan and save the owner-occupied house from foreclosure sale.

Homeowners having difficulty paying their mortgage should call the new Save Your Home Philly hotline at: 215-334-HOME.

This will connect them with nonprofit housing counselors, who can negotiate with lenders to modify mortgages to bring them within the borrower’s ability to pay.

Homeowners threatened with foreclosure can also call a nonprofit housing counseling agency such as the Philadelphia Unemployment Project at 215-557-0822 or Consumer Credit Counseling Service at 215-563-5665.
